A lunchtime rush is anticipated for voting in the Galway West by-election, which up to morning time was broadly in line with turnout in the constituency in the 2024 General Election.
In the run-in to lunchtime turnout was averaging between 8 and 14 per cent across all polling centres since voting began at 7 this morning.
Turnout is at 8 per cent in Doughiska and Ballybane and 9 per cent in Clifden, Renmore, Cill Ronan on the Aran Islands and Tirellan.
It's at 10 per cent in An Cheathrú Rua and Claregalway and 11 per cent in An Spidéal, Oranmore, Knocknacarra and Westside.
The highest turnouts so far are in Salthill at 12 per cent and Moycullen at 14 per cent.
Voting also relatively slow in Dublin Central with some stations ticking over but an early morning turnout of just 3 per cent after the morning work rush.
The polls are open until 10 tonight.
