Two Connemara projects are set to benefit from grant aid announced by the Minister for the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary.
One relates to the promotion of currach racing and the other concerns childcare facilities.
Minister Calleary announced a package of grants for various initiatives in Gaeltacht areas throughout the country and Carna in Connemara will be one of the beneficiaries.
Forbairt Chonamara Láir - the mid Connemara area community development company - will receive just over €13,000 in assistance towards employing a consultant to advise on two projects.
One of those projects is related to the proposed upgrading of facilities at the Carna Childcare Centre.
The Centre provides services from crèche facilities up to pre-school services and is currently full to capacity and employing 12 people.
The second element in this package is advice on the provision of a fibre glass type currach.
The Minister statement referred to the importance of this type of craft for the Club Mara - the Seafaring Club in Carna - for the continuation of the currach racing tradition along the Connemara coast.
