A yellow wind warning for the entire country comes into effect at 1pm this afternoon.
It will remain in place until 2am tomorrow morning.
Met Éireann is forecasting very strong southerly winds, veering westerly by this evening with severe gusts and coastal gales.
High Spring Tides coinciding with storm surges, significant wave heights and strong to gale force onshore winds may lead to wave overtopping and coastal flooding at times of high tide.
Areas along Atlantic coasts will be most vulnerable to this.
A status yellow rain warning has also come into effect for Mayo and Donegal - it's due to remain in place until 4 o'clock this afternoon.
