Man taken to UHG after major fire in Liosbán

Investigations are continuing into a major fire in the Liosbán Industrial Estate which led to a man being hospitalised

The blaze broke out at an apartment on the roof of the Royal Court Business Centre late last evening.

The incident created massive plumes of black smoke, which could be seen across Galway Bay.

Emergency services contained the fire after about an hour and a man was taken to UHG.

Chief Fire Officer Gerry O'Malley told Galway Talks crews found the man unresponsive in the apartment.

Local businessman Tomás Kenny of the nearby Kenny's Bookshop arrived at the scene shortly after the fire started - he says the response was exceptional.
