Sunflower Children's Hospice

The Galway Bay FM Community Hub – a free service dedicated to supporting local communities across Galway. Broadcast twice daily, Monday to Friday between 7am and 7pm, the Community Diary helps promote fundraising events, community initiatives, and the activities of local clubs, societies, registered charities, and non-profit organisations. It provides an effective platform to share important notices with our listeners and connect people with the causes, events, and groups that help make our communities thrive.

Galway Community Hub is kindly sponsored by the Sunflower Children's Hospice

Right now, if a child in the West of Ireland needs specialist palliative care, their family faces hours on the road to Dublin. For families already carrying the weight of a life-limiting diagnosis, that journey adds exhaustion on top of heartbreak.

The Sunflower Children's Hospice is working to change that. Set to be Ireland's first children's hospice outside Dublin, it will be built in Castlebar and will serve children and young people with life-limiting conditions across the west and north-west, from Donegal to Limerick.

Purpose-built and free to access, it will provide specialist inpatient care, family accommodation, hydrotherapy, play and sensory facilities, and a full multidisciplinary clinical team. All within reach of home.

The project is led and funded by Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, the organisation behind both Mayo Hospice and Roscommon Hospice, built entirely from community fundraising over the past 30 years.
