The Tote Galway Plate takes centre stage on Wednesday July 29th and is a thrilling, high-stakes handicap steeplechase. It covers a distance of about 2 miles and 6 furlongs with 14 fences to jump.
It's a very rich and competitive event. It regularly boasts a massive prize fund worth €270,000. Because it is a handicap race, horses of different abilities carry different weights. This makes the race very difficult and exciting for both trainers and jockeys. Historically, this race has been run at Ballybrit since 1869, making it one of the most prestigious events in Irish National Hunt racing. The Tote has sponsored this iconic race for 16 years.
