At the Galway County Community Games EGM held in the Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, on Wednesday, 28th January, a new County Committee was elected to run the games in Galway for 2026. Stephen Nolan from Oranmore Maree has been elected as the new Chairperson, with Garret Byrne from Kinvara elected as Secretary and Claire Towey Burke is the new P.R.O. A call had gone out to all Community Games local area groups to put forward people to take on some of the main officer roles, as the future participation of Galway at a national level was under threat.
Thanks to all the Areas who rallied to the call, to our local Press and Radio Media, Galway Bay FM, the Tuam Herald and Connacht Tribune, who got the word out and for all the goodwill received for Community Games in Galway. Galway County Community Games will be registered with the National body shortly, and when accepted by National HQ, Areas can then register. Some parts of the 2026 Calendar were discussed, and this information will be distributed to area committees shortly. Check out the Galway County Community Games Facebook page for updates.
