Connacht Cross Country Championships
The second day of the Connacht Clubs Cross Country Championships will be held on Sunday next in Ballinrobe Racecourse in Mayo, with the first race off at 11 am. The Uneven Ages Juvenile races for U11 to U19 will be held, along with the final leg of the Connacht Senior League. Once again, this is a qualifying event for the National Cross-Country Championships, which will be held over two days: the Even Ages Juveniles and National Senior Championships in Derry on November 23rd, and the Uneven Ages and National Novice Championships in Dublin on December 7th next.
Corofin Loops race
Last weekend saw record numbers compete in the Corofin 8k and 10 Mile series races held on Sunday, 2nd November. The 8k event was won by Evan Kelly in 26.59, ahead of first lady Dee Grady of Ennis Track AC, next home in 28.10, and third place went to Bryan Lalor of Galway City Harriers in 28.59. The 10 Miler saw Cathal Kennedy of Thurles Crokes win in 53.28, with James Elgar second for GCH in 54.54 and John Hayes next for GCH in 56.31. First lady was Neasa De Burca in 62.20, for GCH, with Jane Ann Meehan second in the colours of Athenry in 64.20 and Deirdre Gibbons third for GCH in a time of 64.38 (Credit Photo Eire Vision)
Fixtures
Upcoming Road races permitted by Athletics Ireland include the Ballinderreen 10k, hosted by South Galway AC, on November 16th next at 12.30pm, incorporating the Galway 10km road championships.
The Fields of Athenry 10k on St Stephen's Day at 11 am, and the New Year's Resolution Run 5k on January 1st at 10.15 am. Entry for all events is on Eventmaster online.
