This week on Bay Business, Breda Fox speaks to Joe Smyth of Genesys.
Joe Smyth is Senior Vice President and General Manager of Genesys Ireland — one of the world's leading AI-powered customer experience companies — leading a team of over 350 engineers and technology professionals from Galway, one of the company's most significant global centres of excellence.
A Galway man through and through, Joe co-founded Altocloud in 2013 in the very first cohort of companies at the PorterShed on Eyre Square — building an AI-driven customer journey analytics platform that was acquired by Genesys in 2019 in a deal that brought significant international recognition to Galway's tech ecosystem.
Rather than move on after the acquisition, Joe stayed — growing the Galway operation into a powerhouse of AI engineering that today works on some of the most advanced customer experience technology in the world. AI-powered conversations on the Genesys platform grew by over 120% in a single year — a statistic that illustrates just how rapidly this technology is reshaping how businesses interact with their customers.
A long-standing member of ITAG and a member of the University of Galway's Computer Science Advisory Board, Joe is deeply committed to developing the next generation of technology talent in the West of Ireland
