Galway Climate Inspirations Festival packed with youth focused events

This week on Next Gen Galway, we're looking ahead to the Galway Climate Inspirations Festival June 24th - 28th.

In 2024 Galway City Council launched a new annual climate festival, the first of its kind organised by a local authority in Ireland. ‘Climate Inspirations-Communities in Action’ is an innovative, creative and collaborative festival which aims to change the narrative around climate action to one of positivity. It harnesses Galway's creative energy and embraces our theatrical, musical, art, active travel, sport, Gaeilge and food cultures.

Now back for its third installment, this year’s Cimate Inspirations Festival kicks off on Wednesday at Father Burke Park and across 5 days sees a wide-ranging programme of events, including some events that are perfect for younger members of the family.

Our Transition Year Media Week intern Robyn Keane has been speaking to Galway City Council Climate Officer Tiernan McCusker about the festival. Robyn also caught up with Music Generation’s Caroline Stanley who is facilitating the Music in Nature event, which takes place in Father Burke Park on Thursday.

And, Galway Atlantiquaria are hosting their 'School's Out for Summer Climate Carnival' event. Dr Nóirín Burke from the Aquarium chats to Kayte about the event which takes place on Thursday. On the day visitors can take part in the Midshore Memory Challenge, get their hands wet exploring seaweed fronds and holdfasts, learn about how long litter and waste lasts on our shores, and get creative at the Ocean Design Station!
