Galway United suffered defeat at the hands of Connacht neighbours Sligo Rovers in the Showgrounds last night, with former United striker Francely Lomboto scoring the winner against his former side. Both sides finished the game with ten men after both John Mahon and Moses Dyer were dismissed, with Galway United rueing several late opportunities to salvage a draw. Sligo Rovers went ahead before half-time, when Rob Slevin misjudged the bounce of the ball, allowing Owen Elding to pick out Jad Hakiki with a superb pass, and he fired past United goalkeeper EvanWatts for his second goal of the season. Moses Dyer equalised just after half-time with his tenth goal of the season after he rose highest to meet Cian Byrne’s free-kick, but the League of Ireland's top scorer was red-carded shortly afterwards, after clashing with Rovers' John Mahon following a strong challenge from the Sligo man, who was also sent off. Lomboto’s fourth of the season earned the hosts all three points on 73 minutes, their second win over Galway this season.
After the game, Galway United manager John Caulfield spoke to Galway Bay FM commentator Jonathan Higgins...
