Clarinbridge crowned U14 A hurling champions

The Ocean Hygiene Supplies and Packaging Under 14 "A" hurling final was played last evening at Kenny Park with Clarinbridge defeating Athenry by 2-12 to 2-5. The winners lead by 1-7 to 2-1 at half time. They raced into a 1-4 to no score lead early on following scores through Aaron Niland (1-3) and Darragh Kearney before two excellent Ethan O'Brien goals saw Athenry surge back into the game. He added a super point from play late in the half but three additional Aaron Niland scores ensured Clarinbridge a three point interval lead.                      Early second half Athenry points through captain Dylan Quirke and James Diviney kept Athenry in touch but a second Aaron Niland goal ensured there was daylight between the sides. The aforementioned Niland scored 2-11 of his sides total in a man of the match performance. Jason Rabbitte hit two late Athenry scores on an evening when top class hurling was seen between two well coached and competitive sides.                                                                Clarinbridge had star performers in Christopher Callanan, Ben O'Dwyer, Sean Murphy, Mikey Fallon, Darragh Counihan, Ronan Murphy, Darragh Kearney and Aaron Niland while Sam Haverty, Stephen Feeney, Dylan Quirke, Jason Rabbitte, Eoin Hannon, James Diviney, Adam O' Halloran and Ethan O'Brien were to the fore for Athenry. After the game the Joe Salmon Cup was presented to a delighted Clarinbridge captain Sean Murphy.
