The Domino's Basketball Leagues begin across Ireland this weekend with plenty of Galway involvement.
On Saturday, in the Men's Division One, Maigh Cuilinn take on the Killarney Cougars at Kingfisher at 7 pm. At the same time, Maree will travel to St Mary's Hall to take on the ND Audit Portlaoise Panthers. At 7:30 pm, Titans BC are away to SPK Utility Trust Lakers in Killarney.
In the Women's Division One on Saturday, the University of Galway Mystics take on Clunetech Kilkenny Stars away from home from 6 pm.
In the Men's and Women's Super League, there are some gripping clashes on this opening weekend. In the men's there is a derby in Cork to open the season on Friday night as UCC Demons host Energywise Ireland Neptune. Elsewhere, last season's Division One champions mark their return to the Super League with a home clash against Ballincollig. There's also a Dublin derby to look forward to on Saturday night as St Vincent's, who narrowly survived relegation to Division One last season, host last season's Pat Duffy Cup champions and Super League Runners-up Killester.
In the Women's Super League, there is a rematch of last season's final on the opening night of the season. Killester's Leilana Turner has described this game as a "redemption game" for her side after FloMAX Liffey Celtics beat them to the title last season. Elsewhere, Utility Trust St.Paul's travels to SETU Waterford Wildcats, whose season they ended in the playoffs last March as an eighth seed. There is also a Cork derby to look forward to on Sunday when UCC Glanmire host Gurranabraher Credit Union Brunell at 1:30 pm.
