Emmanuel Petit believes Rodri should 'look at himself in the mirror' following his 'disrespectful' comments towards Cape Verde.
Rodri played 87 minutes for Spain in their shock 0-0 draw with Cape Verde on Sunday.
Despite boasting 62 per cent possession and firing off 23 shots, Spain could not breach Vozinha in goal.
The Spanish skipper's frustrations were evident when speaking to media post-match, stating Cape Verde 'barely created anything' and 'don't get past midfield' in a stinging swipe at their tactics.
But Petit, a World Cup winner with France in 1998, has fired back at Rodri.
"I think it's arrogant," Petit said on talkSPORT.
"I don't expect Cape Verde to get the position of the ball and to create on many occasions against Spain. Spain is one of the best teams in the world.
"The way he said that, this is disrespectful for Cape Verde and I think you should look at yourself in the mirror because you should have done better to win that game. You had some occasions to score, you didn't.
"I think you have to put credit on the Cape Verde players because they defended like lions on the pitch."
