National Juvenile Track & Field Championships
The final weekend of the 123.ie National Juvenile Track & Field Championships was held last weekend in the heat of Tullamore, with Galway clubs finishing off the track and field season in some style
Lauren Kilduff of Craughwell AC topped the weekend's performances, becoming U18 National Champion in the 400m Hurdles and breaking the Championship record with a time of 60:33, with clubmate Emma O'Donovan taking a super bronze in 62.44.
Also for the club, Halle Feerick stormed to All-Ireland gold with a fantastic PB of 24.83 in the 200m heats before following it up with another brilliant run to take the National U14 Boys 200m title with a dip on the line in a time of 25.08. Darragh Kelly secured the U19 High Jump title with a 1.75m clearance to add to his sprint hurdles title from a few weeks ago.
Five Galway City Harriers Relay teams medalled at the National Relay events held on Sunday, with the GCH Under 12 Girls 4x100m claiming a superb gold via the squad of Katie McGlynn, Elliana Magnetti, Thea Lynch, Maneli Fazaeli and Matilda McGlynn .
Three GCH teams won Silver medals: the U19 Boys 4x400m team of Odhran Mooney Johnston, Oisin Maher, Sean Danker, Shane McGovern & Alvin Ngani; the GCH Under 17 Boys 4x100m squad of Kevin Sangodele, Charlie O'Malley, Hugo Lynagh, Mahmoud Diarrassouba & Majus Ogulevicius, and the Under 14 Boys 4x100m team of Luke Collins, Joshua Danker, Darcy Noel, Louis Jean Hounkponou plus Harrison Agnew, Adam Daly.
The Under 17 Mixed 4x400m swooped to win bronze via the squad of Lauren Ward, Adill Prochownik Mohamed, Keilah Murray, Justin McCarthy, plus Katie O'Haire & Luke Spence
South Galway AC secured All Ireland Bronze via Isle Ní Chonghaile in the U12 Long with a massive 4.01m jump. Ben Naughton for Loughrea AC struck bronze and a new personal best in the U16 1500m.
Tuam AC duo Rachel Treacy and Danielle Moynihan both won their second medal of the Championships, with Treacy placing second in the U16 250m Hurdles in a new personal best while Moynihan won the bronze in the U19 200m, her last ever juvenile race
For West Coast AC, it was a Silver lining for their U18 Boys relay team who raced to a super silver via e Caleb Ike, Daniel Sangodele, Ben Moran, Sizothini Ndhlovu and Jayden Montes
West Coast sprinter Lemar Lucciano took home a second National medal of the season, this time in the U19 200m sprint

Conor Penney’s success continued this week when the Olympic Council of Ireland confirmed his selection on Tuesday (15th July 2025) as part of the Irish team to compete in the European Youth Olympic Festival later in July in Macedonia.
The Craughwell athletes’ selection is richly deserved, having achieved the qualification standard of 2.06m during the indoor season and following this up last weekend with a brilliant 2.08m outdoors to win the National U20 High Jump title. Matthew Newell of Tuam AC is also selected after a brilliant Race Walking season, and will go in the 5km Race Walk event
Four of Galway’s top athletes travel to this weekend’s European U23 championships in Bergen, Norway, being held between 17th and 20th July
Emma Moore of Galway City Harriers will compete over 800m individually following her great early season performances, and also is chosen on the 4*400m Relay team
Also, for GCH, Andrew Egan will compete in the 200m and the 4*400m events
Tuam AC athlete Alix Joyce goes in the 3000m Steeplechase event, while South Galway AC star David Mannion has been picked for the Men’s 4x400m relay team.
Also competing internationally this weekend are GCH Juvenile athletes Lucy Hounkponou and Shane McGovern, who are in Budapest this week as part of an Irish team at the historic FISEC Games.
Hounkponou will compete in Sprint & Hurdles while McGovern goes in his favoured event, the 400m.

Last weekend featured the Business of Truth 5km held in the City, with wins for Andy Nevin of Mullingar Harriers overall in a time of 16.27 ahead of John Boylan and Michael Flanagan, with Dee Grady of Ennis first lady home in a fast 17.31
The Galway Senior and Masters Track and Field championships were held in Dangan last weekend .
Among the highlights were Senior wins for Craughwell AC athletes - Siona Lawless, Long Jump; Jade Moorhead, High; Sinead Treacy, 400m Champion; Oisin Davis ,800m; Declan O'Connell, 1500m Mens winner; Ladies 1500m Champion, Anna McKernan and Mens 3000m Champion, William Fitzgerald .
Other notable wins included Nicole Walsh and Laura Ann Costello over 100m and 200m respectively for GCH, and Richard Kamson, also of GCH over Hurdles, Long and Triple Jump.
Caltra and District AC host their Summer 5k, and also a 10k on 25th July next at 7pm, with entry open on Eventmaster
