World Relays for Doggett

Sean Doggett of Athenry AC raced for the Irish team at the World Relay Championships in Gaborne, Botswana last weekend.

Doggett competed in the Mixed 4x400m Relay event and raced Friday in the heats, where the squad placed fourth.

The quartet comprising of Sharlane Mawdsley, Sophie Becker and Jack Raftery.

This earned the team a place on Saturdays run off for World Championship places and a young squad anchored by Doggett and Raftery along with Erin Friel and Jenna Breen, placed seventh and were just outside the qualifying bracket for the Worlds .

The Irish Ladies squad led by Mawdsley made sure of qualification in the Ladies 4x400m Relay , racing well on day two , to ensure a berth in the World Championships.

 

Galway 5km Series

The third leg of the Galway 5km Series was held in Athenry this Tuesday 5th May , as the six-race series reached its midpoint

First home on the night was Evan O Rourke of Maree with a blistering 15.25, with John Hayes of GCH second in 16.07 and Darren Melia of South Galway third in 16.34

First lady home in a fast race was young South Galway star Ellen Bermingham in 17.53, with Phoebe Whiteside of GCH right behind in 17.55 , and Jane Ann Meehan third in 18.06

Road Races

Galway athletes performed well at the major Half Marathons held in Dublin and Limerick last weekend.

Maebh Brannigan of GCH ran a stormer to clock 74.47 in Dublin for second place overall behind Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill.

In Limerick. Neasa De Burca of GCH was fourth in the half marathon in 1.23 , while GCH Ladies placed second in the Relay Marathon.

 

Galway County Juvenile Track and Field Championships

The Galway Track and Field Championships for Juvenile athletes take place May 9th and 10th next in Dangan with 10 am starts on both days.

Saturday features the U13-U19 athletes with U9-12 athletes competing on Sunday
