Galway Ladies Manager looks forward to Championship opener away to Meath
Five weeks after successfully retaining their Connacht senior title, Galway's ladies football return to championship action this Sunday (7th June) in their opening game in the TG4 All-Ireland series. The Tribeswomen are in a three-team group with Meath and Tyrone, starting with a trip to the Royal County before hosing the Red Hands six days later.  Two teams qualify for the quarter-finals with the group winners earning a home fixture. Even though they've a good recent league record against Meath, they haven't beaten the Leinster team in the summer since the 2006 All-Ireland quarter-final replay when goals from Gillian Joyce and Edel Concannon secured a 2-10 to 0-15 win in Breffni Park.
Meath's last success over Galway was in 2022 when a late Emma Duggan point for the reigning All-Ireland champions saw them come through a last eight tie by 1-12 to 1-11. Leading up to the game, Galway manager Daniel Moynihan has been chatting to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly and first they looked back on last month's provincial decider win over Mayo....
