Powerlifting World Record Set Yet Again by Niall McGuinness
Nial McGuinness, aged 67, returned from the recent Global Powerlifting World Championships in Slovakia with two gold medals to his name. Nial set a new world record bench press, lifting 132.5KG in the masters category (smashing his previous world record of 120kg). He also picked up another gold medal in the masters F8 bench press category for good measure.

A native of Dublin, Nial lives in Seehan, Gort and has been competing in powerlifting since 2022. His son David McGuinness (himself a powerlifting champion and world record holder) is his coach. Nial is a long-time strength and conditioning coach with South Galway Athletics Club and has been living in the south Galway town for a couple of decades.
