Each year, as the dust settles on Christmas Day and the wrapping paper is tucked away, something magical stirs in the heart of East Galway. On St. Stephen’s Day, the town of Athenry comes alive with runners, walkers, families, and friends — all drawn to the Fields of Athenry 10K, one of Ireland’s most beloved holiday races.
What began as a local race has become a cherished Christmas tradition for thousands. Some lace up to chase PBs. Others walk it off with loved ones. Many just come for the atmosphere, the buzz, and — of course — the now infamous Fields 10K hat. A different colour each year, its reveal is kept secret right up until the final week, making it a prized badge of honour for anyone who finishes the course.
This year, the 2025 Fields of Athenry 10K promises to be bigger and better. Entries are now LIVE, with an exclusive early bird rate of just €25 for the first 500 entrants. From there, general entry is €29, with options for 15–17 year olds (€15), corporate teams of 4 (€100), and family teams of 4 (€100). It’s a race for everyone — and walkers are more than welcome.
No entries will be accepted on the day, so securing a place early is essential.
For the first time ever, the 2025 race will feature cash prizes for the top three male and female finishers, bringing an extra spark of competition to the AAI-approved, chip-timed event. And speaking of competition, last year saw the debut of the Corporate Team Entry, a fiercely contested category won by SmartBear. With The Castle Group once again sponsoring the team event, anticipation is already building for this year’s entries.
Behind it all, the race remains a fundraiser at heart. Proceeds go toward the continued development of the club track, supporting athletics for all in the region. This year’s event is made possible thanks to the generous support of Kare Plus Ireland (Main Sponsor) and The Castle Group (Platinum Sponsor).
Whether you're chasing a podium finish, walking with friends, or just there for the post-race buzz and that coveted hat — the Fields of Athenry 10K is more than a race. It’s a moment, a memory, and a Christmas ritual you won’t want to miss.
See you at the start line. December 26th. Athenry. Be there.
