Dunmore preparing for major protest over "death trap" Bridge Street

Locals in Dunmore are preparing for a major protest over the dreadful condition of Bridge Street, which is being described as a "death trap".

The narrow, dark street is lined with derelict buildings, and during peak times, the two-way traffic often drives on the footpaths.

Plans are underway to demolish the street, widen the road and overhaul the area as a bright public space.

But Galway County Council has now twice pulled the plans for technical reasons - leading to immense local frustration.

A protest is now planned in Dunmore for Saturday, January 17th.

Speaking to Galway Talks, local parent Sara Slattery said her three children are old enough to walk to school on their own - but she's so afraid that she still goes with them.
