Galway Bay fm newsroom - Just 2.5% of marriages across the city and county last year were same sex marriages.

The latest CSO data reveals that 32 same sex marriages took place in across Galway in 2016 - out of a total of over 1,200 marriages.

12 female couples and 20 male couples tied the knot in Galway.

Nationally, the latest stats reveal that same sex marriages account for only 5 per cent of all marriages in this country.

Just over a thousand same sex couples said "I do" during 2016 - the first full year since the law changed.
