You might have heard over the course of the day that it's now exactly 40 years since the first official mobile phone call in Ireland.
It was in December 1985, between Pat Kenny and Jim Mitchell, who was Communications Minister.
The legendary broadcaster says he took the call on a Dublin street:
Back then, phones were bulky, heavy, and extremely expensive.
Derek Cassidy, founder of the Irish Communications Research Group, says they were aimed at business people:
Today, millions of people in Ireland are using smartphones daily in every aspect of their lives.
Entertainment, communication, social media, photography, reading, education - there's very little your phone can't do.
But, for some, that strength is also a weakness, particularly when it comes to children, and over-engagement with phones and virtual spaces.
And in the Dáil last evening, mobile phones were a key focus as online safety was discussed.
Galway East TD Albert Dolan - one of the youngest TD's in the Dáil - drew on his experiences with mobile phones.
