55% increase in drug driving cases at Loughrea district court office

There has been a 55% increase in Drug driving cases at Loughrea District Court in 2025.

The number of offences up until October 2025 has reached 17, an increase of 6 from the entirety of 2025.

Galway has seen in a decrease in offences so far this year, falling by 1 to 57.

Nationally, there have been over 2,000 motorists caught driving under the influence of drugs, an increase of 37%.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Fianna Fail MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú is urging motorists not to take any risks by using alcohol or drugs at the wheel.
