A man has been jailed for three years for the sexual abuse of his younger sister in rural Galway over 60 years ago.
79-year-old Seán Monaghan of The Harbour, Marketpoint, Mullingar in Westmeath pleaded guilty to the rape and indecent assault of his sister, Julie Fogarty, on dates in 1962 and 1963.
He was aged 15 to 16 years at the time of the crimes while his sister was 10 to 11 years.
The court heard Ms Fogarty suffers from 'repeated flashbacks' and says her life has been 'changed forever in a bad way'.
