Almost 800 new social homes are either under construction or at design phase across Galway.
That's according to new figures from the Department of Housing.
By the end of June, 776 social homes in Galway were listed as being either under construction or at design stage.
The distinction is important - the vast majority of the homes will be at design stage, and the number under active construction, relatively low.

There's been very little social housing delivered in Galway since 2010, and both the City and County Council are very much playing catch up.
Nationally, by the end of June, almost 27 thousand social homes were at various stages of design or construction.
And of those, around 1,800 were completed and delivered.
