A student from An Cheathrú Rua has won a National young translator contest ran by the EU.
Méabh Ní Gionnain of Scoil Chuimsitheach became the fourth Galway winner in a row of the Juvenes Translatores competition.
47 Irish students took part in the competition, which involved translating a conversation from English to Irish using only a dictionary.
An award ceremony will take place in Brussels next month (March), where Méabh and other winners from around Europe will get a tour of the European Commission.
Méabh says that winning the competition has 'opened her eyes' to a career in translation.
