Appeal over refusal of student accommodation at former Griffin's Bakery

An appeal's been lodged with An Coimisiún Pleanála over the refusal of plans to transform Griffin's Bakery on Shop Street.

Jessed Ltd had submitted plans for a reduced café and retail unit, and a change of use of the first, second and third floors to residential accommodation.

The overheard accommodation was specified as one five-bed, and one four-bed unit - for short term let or student accommodation.

City planners refused permission last month, taking issue with the short term letting plans, and the loss of retail space at ground level on a busy shopping street.

This is the third planning application submitted for the former Griffins Bakery since it closed its doors in 2019 after more than 100 years in operation.

Jessed Ltd has now taken an appeal to An Coimisiún Pleanála, with a decision due sometime in summer.
