Approval for wind turbine development at Cloonascragh near Tuam

County planners have approved plans for a wind turbine development at Cloonascragh.

The single turbine would be 168 metres in height, and would be located off the R347 Athenry Road around 3.5km south of Tuam Town.

The plans are led by Sharedturbine Ltd and Cloonascragh Locally Owned Turbine Limited.

Once completed, the turbine would be transferred into local ownership and those living within 2km of the site will be eligible to own part of it.

The applicant is also seeking to set up a community benefit fund.

The plans have been approved with 20 conditions, and the turbine will have an operational lifespan of 35 years.
