The green light's been given to plans to demolish a controversial vacant pub in Ballybane and replace it with a student block.
Glen Ward and Maureen McDonagh are leading the project at the former site of "The Lantern".
The Lantern hasn't opened as a pub for many years at this point, though it's notoriety is the stuff of local legend.
It's reputation went far beyond Galway's borders, and in its last year of operation in 2019, Gardaí were called there dozens of times.
Given the history of the site, many locals will likely be happy to see the latest vision approved, though some objectors did feel it was out of scale with the area.
The Lantern will be flattened and replaced with a four storey building, with a retail unit at ground floor, and 31-bed student accommodation overhead.
City planners have now granted permission with relatively routine conditions, including that a roof terrace not be used outside the hours of 8am to 8pm.
