Augmented reality is being considered to enhance the experience of the historic Alcock and Brown flight from North America to Connemara over 100 years ago
Connemara Chamber of Commerce is looking at using the new technology at the Clifden tourism amenity
This report from Máirtín Ó Catháin.
As the United States celebrates its 250th year of independence, it might be time to remember the two men who made the first flight through the skies from the American continent to European soil.
And those intrepid men, John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown landed in a bog between Ballyconneely and Clifden in 1919.
The Connemara Chamber of Commerce has announced that the memorial to the pioneering airmen is being looked at in a modern perspective.
What is described as an Augmented Reality concept is being looked at to bring the flight to life at the landing area in Derrygimblagh Bog.
The proposed experience would blend immersive storytelling with new technology which would allow visitors to the site to follow the first flight from Newfoundland to Connemara on their phones.
A 3D Augmented Reality Model of the Vickers Vimy aircraft is also in the plans.
This is the new world in Derrygimblagh.
