The N59 is now closed near Recess - and will remain closed over the coming hours - due to a major fire at Joyce's Craftshop.
A blaze broke out early this morning and although firefighters managed to contain it, it's proven very difficult to extinguish.
Units from Clifden, Carraroe, Ballinrobe and Castlebar are currently at the scene, including specialist equipment.
It's now been revealed that the whole building will have to be demolished, necessitating the closure of the N59.
Traffic travelling from Galway to Clifden will have to turn right at Maam Cross.
While traffic going the opposite direction, Clifden to Galway, must turn left at Inagh Valley.
It's not yet known how long the N59 will remain closed - but the operation involves the drafting of heavy specialist machinery which will take some time.
