Local Councillors in Ballinasloe have called for the ESB to sit before Galway County Council after widespread reports of outages in the area last year.

According to multiple councillors, there was 20 outages in the area in 2025, affecting approximately 7,000 homes.

In the start of 2026 these problems have persisted, with Fine Gael Councillor Peter Keaveney complaining of power surges damaging electrical equipment when generators kick in after outages.

Independent Ireland Councillor for Ballinasloe, Declan Geraghty, says that issues with falling trees need to be rectified.
