Call for Garda cars to be fitted with defibrillators

A call has been made for all Garda cars be fitted with defibrillators.

Fianna Fáil Councillor for Galway City East, Alan Cheevers, believes this would help increase survival rates for serious incidents.

Galway City recently became the first '4 minute city' - meaning you are never more than four minutes away from a defibrillator regardless of location.

As of December 2025 there are 128 registered Garda vehicles in the Galway district.
