Call for transport solution for Galway direct provision centres

Galway Bay fm newsroom - The Galway Anti-Racism Network is calling for a transport solution to be provided for residents at Galway's direct provision centres.

It follows an alleged case where a woman living at the Eglinton centre in Salthill was forced to walk home from UHG with a sick child as she could not afford bus or taxi fares.

Under the Direct Provision system, Asylum seekers are provided an allowance of €19 per week with an additional €6 per child.

Joe Loughnane of the Galway Anti-Racism Network says some form of transport allowance must be introduced.
