CIE pensioners to hold protest at Galway's Ceannt Station

CIE pensioners are to hold a protest at Galway's Ceannt Station this day week, Monday January 26th, calling for an increase in their pensions.

Pensions at the public transport provider have been frozen since 2008, with an estimated 2,000 former staff affected by the stagnation.

Recent negotiations between the CIE board and the CIE Salary and Pensioners association reached a stalemate, with the current deal on the table only granting an increase to those who retired before 2023.

Martin Quinn, former Mayor of Galway and organiser of the protest, says they will march from the station to Fine Gael Minister Hildegarde Naughton's constituency office in Woodquay
