City council passes motion in support of Eurovision boycott

Galway Bay fm newsroom - Galway city council has passed a motion in support of a boycott of the Eurovision being held in Israel.

The motion led by Independent councillor Colette Connolly noted that "it will be openly used for political and militaristic propaganda purposes."

A petition asking Ireland's Eurovision entrant Sarah McTernan to pull out of the competition has also received 7-thousand signatures.

The Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign has delivered the petition to the 25-year-old Clare native.

McTernan performs in the second semi-final on Thursday, with the first getting underway this evening.
