City Council to tackle dumping in Ballybane with CCTV

Galway City Council says it's confident it will be able to install CCTV in Ballybane this year to tackle littering and dumping in the area.

It's after Ballybane was ranked the second worst urban area in the country in a recent IBAL litter survey.

Although the city itself scored in the top 10, Ballybane has for years been identified as a blackspot with persistant littering and long-term neglect.

Responding to the IBAL survey, Galway City Council welcomed the overall high standard, and said it plans to introduce CCTV in Ballybane during 2026.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Alan Cheevers says there's been enough talking about it - it just has to be done.
