City Hall has indicated that new and improved footpaths in Ballindooley are unlikely to happen anytime soon.
The issue was raised at a meeting this week by Councillor Frank Fahy, who said the situation is completely unacceptable.
He outlined how to walk from Ballindooley into the city, you have cross the road several times to use a footpath - if there's even a footpath to be used in some cases.
City management said because The N84 is a national road, any improvement works would be at the mercy of Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
And TII, they said, would be unlikely to support footpaths as they'll be giving priority to significant works needed at Ballindooley Cross.
Fine Gael Councillor Fahy says he won't be giving up on the issue.
