There's a call for state-agency Coillte to re-engage with the local community on the future of Portumna Forest Park.
Galway East TD Louis O' Hara says modest improvements wanted by locals could still go ahead, after Coillte announced it was not moving foward with a development plan.
The plans were unveiled in 2023 but proved controversial, with some locals claiming there was a glaring lack of engagement.
Sinn Fein Deputy O' Hara says there are certain amenities that are universally supported - and these should be acted on.
A statement from Coillte to Galway Bay fm says a public consultation event was held in Portumna in October 2023
It adds details were shared on www.portumnaforestpark.com, with consultation remaining open from October to November 2023. More than 290 submissions were received and were analysed and summarised in a key findings report issued to participants and published online in October 2024.
The statement continues that Coillte subsequently updated the Design Plan to reflect the feedback and continued stakeholder engagement throughout 2024 and early 2025 until Storm Éowyn hit on 24th January 2025.
