Concern over alleged illegal burning at overcrowded Cul Tra halting site in Salthill

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor has described as 'downright stupid' the setting of a fire in a halting site in Salthill in the past week.

Former Mayor of Galway, Noel Larkin says he was travelling home from an event around 1am recently and noticed the flames coming from Cúl Trá.

When he approached the site, he says several men who were present said they were burning rubbish.

Earlier this year, the families at Cúl Trá were issued with a notice to vacate by the city council.

The notice was issued amid concerns about health and safety at the site, which is overcrowded.
