The concerns were raised by councillors at a meeting of the city council last evening.

They were voting in favour of a proposed extension to Mount St. Josephs cemetery in Rahoon.

The extension will provide 641 new grave plots, 45 urn plots and a memorial garden with an estimated rate of up to 100 burials a year.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Ollie Crowe welcomed the extension in Rahoon but said the lack of burial space in the city is 'farcical'.
