Connemara North has the country's second highest incidence of death from nervous system and sensory disorders
That's according to the CSO and includes diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons
The area of Connemara referred to in these statistics from the Central Statistics Office, extends from Camus and Ros Muc west to Carna, and up along the coast to Clifden and Leenaun.
It also takes in Joyce Country, and Killanin is at the eastern boundary.
The latest available statistics show that 36 deaths per 100,000 deaths nationally result from diseases of the nervous system, and the sensory organs.
However, the rate in the Connemara north and west area at 78, is over twice the national average.
Ailments such as Alzheimers and Parkinsons disease are numbered in those categories involving the nervous system and sensory disorders
The statistics for death from those diseases is higher in only one other district in the Republic of Ireland, and that is in the Ballinamore district of Leitrim which is at 79, and north and west Conneamara are just one digit below that.
