Contracts have now been signed for a major road improvement project on the R332 in Killbannon.
It will include road realignment from Kilbannon village towards the GAA pitch, as well as a new footpath and cycleway linking St Benin’s National School.
The multi-million euro plans have been on the agenda for almost a decade, due to increasing traffic volumes and local safety concerns.
The works are expected to get underway in the coming weeks, and involve around 1.2km of the road.
Junior Transport Minister and Galway East TD Sean Canney said he's hopeful it will be finished by the end of the year
