New pedestrian access points connecting city estates are a very worthwhile project - but there's very often local skepticism or opposition.
That was the message delivered at City Hall this week, as a query was raised about the prospect of one such connection in the city centre.
Councillor Eddie Hoare asked for an update on plans to create an access path from the Baily Estate on Circular Road, to Siobhan McKenna Road.
He was advised the City Council very much favours these kinds of projects, but they do experience some pushback from local residents.
In this case though, it appears that progress is being made, with most now onboard with the project.
Fine Gael Councillor Hoare told David Nevin there's already an unofficial path, but it's quite unsafe.
