Council aims to "avoid tourism disruption" on Inis Oirr during major pier works

Galway County Council says a key objective during the major expansion of Inis Oirr Pier will be ensuring there's no disruption to tourism activity.

The €35m expansion works, planned for decades, are now getting underway and are expected to be completed in 2027.

A meeting of Connemara councillors this morning heard the project will see over 30 thousand tonnes of rock brought to the offshore island.

Also confirmed this morning was an intention to appoint a new harbourmaster in the very near future.

Fine Gael Councillor Eileen Mannion says that's extremely important.
