Council almost accidentally banned under 16s from county libraries

It appears that Galway County Council almost accidentally banned under 16s from all public libraries.

The issue arose at County Hall this week as an updated service delivery plan was proposed.

One provision was that children under 16 years of age would require adult supervision in public buildings.

But Councillors realised this would also apply to public libraries - and the update was postponed pending further investigation.

Councillor Karey McHugh says it appears to be an unintended situation, but it's important that it's put right.
