A local Councillor is calling on the government to increase the Housing Aid for Older People Grant to cover the cost of a Generator.
The existing Grant is focused on home improvements such as electrical wiring upgrades, retrofitting and central heating installation.
With the first anniversary of the devastating Storm Eowyn now past, Fine Gael Councillor for Tuam Andrew Reddington believes the elderly need to be looked after in the event of future storms.
He is also calling for the cost of a change over switch, which takes power from a generator and feeds it to circuits throughout a home during a power outage, to be included in the grant.
Cllr Reddington says it would be a worthwhile investment by the government.
