Councillor calls for Leaving Cert fees to be waived

Galway Bay fm newsroom - A city councillor is calling for this year's Leaving Cert fees to be waived.

Councillor Niall McNelis says at a time of national crisis, with families and parents facing unprecedented burdens, it's the only way forward.

He also adds part-time jobs students traditionally take have 'evaporated', and asking them to find €116 for the privilege of sitting exams this year is just unfair and unnecessary.

He points out the fees were waived last year, and the only barrier to a repeat this year would be a lack of willpower from Education Minister, Norma Foley.
