Galway County Council's regeneration team has come on board to shore up the plans to demolish and rebuild Dunmore's Bridge Street, which was recently described as a "death trap"
Plans were drawn up early last year to demolish the street, widen the road and overhaul the area as a bright public space but they were withdrawn several times, most recently in November due to technical issues
There's growing frustration at the ongoing delays in the plans which has led to a protest planned for the town for this Saturday
In addition, a deputation of residents and business people addressed this week's meeting of the Tuam Municipal District
Engineer John Coyle informed the deputation this new approach, involving the council’s town regeneration team, should help iron out any difficulties in the next planning application
Dunmore based Fine Gael Councillor Ollie Turner sees this as a turning point in this vital project for the town
