Dáil hears demand for action on Shannon Oaks in Portumna

Government has been asked to back Galway County Council to take over the former Shannon Oaks hotel in Portumna by CPO.

Raising the matter in the Dáil, local TD Louis O' Hara said he's sick of the excuses and can-kicking associated with the site.

He argued it's been derelict for 15 years and is in a dangerous condition, with children regularly accessing the grounds.

Sinn Fein Deputy O' Hara said it's unacceptable that it's not even listed as derelict, simple because of hoarding around most of the site.

He suggested it should be taken over via compulsory purchase order.
